Drawing is not what one sees but what one can make others see. (Edgar Degas)
I was preoccupied with drawing until I turned to collage in 1971 and later added photography in 1980, putting
both drawing and standard painting on hold. However, this love of drawing was so strong in my mind that
traces of it it kept popping up in the torn edges of certain collages and in my many photographic studies of
trees and shadows. Finally, in 2014, when I retired from teaching, I picked up my drawing tools again and went
to town, focusing on leaves, trees, and other natural forms that had previously been found in many of my photo
series. I drew not only from the actual forms but also from collaged photo details.
